| Overview
The new project consists of the refurbishment and extension of two school buildings, approximately 600m apart, operated by
The Orchards Federation – the Orchards Lower Site and Upper Site in Farnworth, Bolton.
The work entails an extension to the Upper Site. This is currently a 2FE mainstream primary school
(Cherry Tree Primary) co-located with Green Fold Special School, catering for pupils with Severe Learning
Difficulties (SLD) and Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). The new extension will
accommodate the mainstream EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage for children from Nursery to
Reception) unit, currently co-located at the Lower Site with Green Fold’s Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
cohort, together with a small increase in Green Fold SEN accommodation. Once this phase is complete,
the EYFS can decant to the Upper Site, which will allow the Lower Site to be refurbished and extended to
form a consolidated ASD unit.
